Storm the Hill

Overview

Storm the Hill is IAVA’s annual program where selected veterans, called “Stormers,” travel to Washington, DC, to meet with lawmakers and advocate for post-9/11 veterans’ issues. Through personal stories, they push for action on key concerns directly with representatives and senators.

Week in Review

21 Stormers joined us in DC last week. These incredible IAVA members went through a rigorous application process and were competitively selected to come to Washington DC to tell their stories and advocate with IAVA on behalf of the post-9/11 generation of veterans. Stormers met with 37 Representatives and 31 Senators during the course of the week. Learn more about the IAVA Stormers here.

HIghlights

IAVA CEO, Jeremy Butler, testified in front of a joint session of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees on March 3. Jeremy discussed IAVA’s Big Six priorities, the results of our latest Annual Member Survey, and the importance of immediate action to ensure veterans’ needs are addressed. His testimony can be found here.

Jeremy also joined Brianna Keilar to discuss Burn Pits.

2019

Week in Review

28 Stormers joined us in DC over the course of three separate Storms – spring, summer, and fall. These incredible IAVA members went through a rigorous application process and were competitively selected to come to Washington DC to tell their stories and advocate with IAVA on behalf of the post-9/11 generation of veterans. Stormers met with 84 Representatives and 51 Senators during the course of three sessions.

IAVA CEO, Jeremy Butler, testified before the House Veterans Affairs Committee on March 6 and before a Joint Session of Congress on March 7.

In addition, IAVA held a rally to prevent suicide on June 11.

2017

14 Stormers joined us over the course of our 2017 Storm the Hill. These incredible IAVA members went through a rigorous application process and were competitively selected to come to Washington DC to tell their stories and advocate with IAVA on behalf of the post-9/11 generation of veterans. Stormers participated in almost 38 Congressional meetings from March 20-24, 2017.

HIghlights

IAVA testified before Senate and House Veterans’ Affairs Committees on March 27.

On March 21, IAVA held a press conference to announce the launch of our #SheWhoBorneTheBattle campaign and to introduce the Deborah Sampson Act.
