Duane served over 20 years in the US Army and was medically retired in 2006 after participation in OIF and OEF. Since retiring, Duane has received advanced degrees in Public Policy and Religion. He currently holds several positions on various veteran advisory boards such as the Atlanta VA Medical Center Director’s Advisory Board, Veterans Advisory Committee of the VHA Central Business Office, and he is the chair of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Board of DeKalb County, GA. Duane worked with DeKalb County, GA, to establish a system to house homeless veterans achieving functional zero in 2016, confirmed by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Duane also helped raise funds for the Georgia State Monument to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans, unveiled with Governor Deal at the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building in 2015. He also runs a family-owned engineering business and has since 2009.
