Ryan Coverdell

At IAVA: Ryan Coverdell joined IAVA as the Communications Associate in August of 2026. As the Communications Associate, Ryan Coverdell is the primary point of contact for media and is responsible for ensuring IAVA’s voice is heard at moments that matter. As a strategic communicator, Ryan simplifies complicated policies and programs by telling the stories of veterans impacted in a way that drives positive change.

Professional Background: Ryan served in the Army from 2007 to 2011 as a Computer/Detection System Repairer. Following his service, Ryan received a Bachelors in Journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno. After earning his degree, Ryan began working for the Veterans Health Administration in Reno as a Public Affairs Specialist. While working for the VA, Ryan was responsible for simplifying complicated programs and policies and developing communication tools that veterans and their families could understand. Ryan has used his passion for storytelling and data to connect veterans’ voices to the public in a way that both stirs emotions and is executed based on proven methods of communication.

More about Ryan: Ryan is heavily involved in veteran programs at a local level, assisting various veteran programs by developing communication plans, digital and print assets, social media management and event planning. These programs include Fit but not Forgotten, a non-profit based in Fernley, Nevada, that provides scholarships to veterans experiencing mental illness, to pay for Jiu-Jitsu classes. He is also a part of the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza in Sparks, Nevada. In his personal time, Ryan enjoys practicing Jiu-Jitsu, playing chess and woodworking.
