Mr. Gerry Byrne

2025 Veteran Leadership Award

Gerry Byrne is a media executive, Marine Corps veteran, and tireless champion for the military community. A Vietnam veteran who served as a U.S. Marine Corps officer, he has spent decades transforming influence into impact for those who serve. As Vice Chairman of Penske Media Corporation and former publisher of Variety, Gerry has used his platforms to elevate veterans’ voices nationwide.

He is the founder of Veterans Week NYC and Veterans on Campus NYC, initiatives that honor service and support student veterans across New York City. He serves on the boards of some of the most respected military-focused organizations in the country, including Fisher House Foundation, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, the Bob Woodruff Foundation, and the USO.

A longtime ally of IAVA, Gerry has opened doors to major stages, literally. By bringing IAVA to the American Music Awards, he helped place veterans in the national spotlight and catalyzed new partnerships and resources. When veterans need a champion, Gerry Byrne shows up and delivers. We honor his visionary leadership, selfless service, and commitment to those who have worn the uniform.
