IAVA Launches Innovative GI Bill Website

Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation's first and largest non-partisan, nonprofit organization representing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, announced the launch of a groundbreaking outreach campaign, anchored by the website NewGIBill.org, to provide educational resources to new veterans seeking to attend college on the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which takes effect August 1.  Click here to learn more!

Somewhere high in the Afghan mountains, Staff Sgt. Todd Bowers is shouting for joy, dancing, and quite possibly, crying all at once. And I assure you, it’s not because Michael Vick is coming back to the NFL.  In less than five days, the Post-9/11 GI Bill will finally take effect –ushering in the education dreams of hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops and veterans, like Todd, who have put their plans on hold to serve for our country.

Congress Moves on Mental Health Care for Troops and Veterans

Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s first and largest non-partisan, nonprofit organization representing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, commended the Senate for passing a critical mental health screening program as part of the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The new program would require the Department of Defense (DOD) to conduct confidential face-to-face mental health screenings by a certified professional for every servicemember returning from combat.
