New York, NY –  This month, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) will host its thirteenth annual Heroes Gala. The event will be virtually held through Facebook Live streams and will honor award recipients for their commitment to empowering veterans across America. Legal Director of Swords to Plowshares Maureen “Mo” Siedor will receive the Civilian Leadership Award during a Facebook Live event on Thursday, November 19th.

“While our 2020 celebration will look a little different this year, we are incredibly excited to honor amazing leaders. Mo is an outstanding advocate for veterans of all eras – especially those who are most in need of help and support,” said Jeremy Butler, CEO of IAVA. “The veteran community has been hit hard by the pandemic, and it is encouraging to see Americans like Mo, who continue to do so much for our country and community.”

For her tireless advocacy and her dedication to providing legal aid to veterans, Mo Siedor will be receiving the Civilian Leadership Award. Since 2014, Mo has legally represented homeless and low-income veterans to secure their veterans’ benefits and military discharge upgrades. She is a regular presence on Capitol Hill where she provides expert testimony and recommendations to House and Veterans Affairs Committee members regarding policy and legislation to better serve our country’s veteran community.
