IAVA cannot do our work without your help. Please let your representatives know how important these issues are to you and to the veteran community.
EMPOWER VETERANS WHO WANT TO USE MEDICAL CANNABIS
88% of IAVA members surveyed support the additional research of medical cannabis to help them face war injuries such as PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury. IAVA is dedicated to fostering a national conversation on the need for bipartisan, data-based solutions that can bring relief to millions.
We need YOU to urge Congress to enact the bipartisan VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act (S. 1467/H.R. 2916) so the VA can conduct research into the efficacy of medical cannabis as a treatment for veterans with chronic pain, PTSD, and other conditions.
Help End Veteran Homelessness
While the number of homeless veterans has declined since 2010, there are still tens of thousands of veterans who remain homeless on any single night. In IAVA’s latest survey, 24% reported going without a home for over a year after they transitioned out of the military, and 81% reported couch surfing temporarily.
The Building Solutions for Veterans Experiencing Homelessness Act of 2021 (S. 2172) would expand public transportation for veterans to access care, provide stable housing, and deliver appropriate medical care for aging veterans.
Tell Congress to pass the Building Solutions for Veterans Experiencing Homelessness Act of 2021 (S. 2172). Every veteran deserves access to safe shelter and housing.
PASS THE AFGHAN ADJUSTMENT ACT
More than a year since Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, over 300,000 Afghan wartime allies – interpreters & their families – remain left behind. Additionally, more than 70,000 Afghans admitted to the U.S. as “humanitarian parolees” do not have lasting protection or a pathway to permanent U.S. residence.
The Afghan Adjustment Act (H.R.8685/S.4787) would relieve the burden on the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) process and prevent Afghans paroled in the U.S. from losing their jobs or being deported while their applications are pending.
Tell Congress they MUST pass this critical legislation and ensure that this country keeps its promise to those who served our country’s military.
PASS THE COLLEGE TRANSPARENCY ACT
For veterans, the successful transition to the civilian workforce often begins on a college campus. While the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit is extremely important to their successful transition to civilian life, current higher education data doesn’t provide the information veterans need to ensure it’s a smart use of their time and money.
The College Transparency Act (S.839) would make necessary improvements to the current GI Bill Comparison Tool and ensure that veterans are well-equipped to make informed decisions about their education options.
Tell your Members of Congress to support the College Transparency Act to improve the overall student-veteran experience.
