Washington, DC – Today, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs unanimously passed the bipartisan Supporting The Resiliency of Our Nation’s Great (STRONG) Veterans Act and sent it to the full House for a vote. This omnibus package includes the critically important, IAVA-backed Post-9/11 Veterans Mental Health Improvement Act as well as a number of other mental health care bills.

“Mental health and suicide prevention have long been top priorities for IAVA,” said IAVA CEO Jeremy Butler. “We are incredibly grateful to Chairman Takano and Ranking Member Bost for their hard work and commitment to ensuring this legislation is passed in a timely manner to help deliver life-saving care to veterans.”

The Post-9/11 Veterans Mental Health Improvement Act will improve veterans’ access to care, bolster the mental health workforce within VA, and increase much-needed mental health research for veterans and their families. IAVA urges the full House and Senate to send this legislation to the President’s desk without delay.
