RRRP client quote of the week:
“Beyond awesome. Thank you for everything. You’ve exceeded any expectations I had in a way that has been repeatedly stunning.”

Trends:
RRRP continues to receive inquiries related to unemployment/underemployment, and requests for legal assistance relating to VA benefits issues and discharge upgrades. RRRP continues to assist veterans seeking assistance utilizing their Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits and VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) services. Emergency financial assistance needs continue to dominate requests, as many clients are struggling with basic need costs like rent, mortgage, utilities, groceries, vehicle repairs, gas, and home repairs. Many clients seeking financial assistance are also inquiring about employment support and report that their financial and employment struggles are directly related to underlying service-connected general health and mental health issues. We continue to be contacted by veterans seeking assistance submitting their initial VA disability claims or upgrades, as well as those seeking access to VA healthcare and mental health services. We’ve also had several veterans reach out this week with inquiries related to physical health needs with the following conditions: bronchitis, sleep apnea, granulomatous disease, chronic neck and back pain.

Referral Partner Highlight: Coaching Into Care:
Coaching Into Care is a national telephone service that is funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and is available to friends and family members who are looking to get a veteran in their life linked up with appropriate support and services. The goal of this program is to assist veterans, their family members and other loved ones to locate and access necessary services either through local VAs or community resources by educating, supporting and empowering. In addition, Coaching Into Care provides coaching by licensed psychologists and social workers to family and friends of veterans that are concerned that the veteran in their life is having a difficult time adjusting to civilian life or maintaining stability. These coaches work with callers to provide support and strategies on how to begin the conversation about accessing treatment with the veteran that they are concerned about. These highly trained coaches also support callers by helping with strategies for motivating the veteran to pursue treatment, access available support and provide specific information about mental health needs and challenges that the veteran may be experiencing. Calls generally take 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the need and can be extended to several calls, generally with the same coach. Coaching Into Care can be accessed Monday – Friday from 8am to 8pm EST. RRRP has been referring to this important and effective resource since 2013 and has connected 41 family members and friends of veterans with this amazing program.
