Read: RRRP Weekly Impact Report September 14, 2018

RRRP client quote of the week:

“I have been calling and leaving messages for different resources all week and no one was calling me back. You offered to reach out on my behalf and not only did I receive a call back but many of my questions were answered that have been stressing me out all week. You are like a secret weapon. I don’t know how you did it, but thanks. I appreciate you.”

Trends:
RRRP processed 14 new cases this week and provided 9 new referrals for clients. Community, client advocacy, and suicide and mental health needs were the top areas clients sought support and assistance with. RRRP also received inquiries for assistance with employment support and homelessness and served two new clients that were at-risk of homelessness. RRRP also served one new client this week that was suicidal or at imminent risk of suicide. Clients continue to report a reduction in stress after working with RRRP’s Veteran Transition Managers.

Referral Partner Highlight: Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS)
A trusted RRRP referral partner and one of IAVA’s closest allies, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) provides support, hope, and community for families grieving the loss of a military loved one. Bonnie Carroll, who also sits on IAVA’s Board of Directors, founded TAPS following the death of her husband, Brigadier General Tom Carroll, who died in an Army C-12 plane crash in 1992. As she grieved the loss of her husband, Bonnie soon realized that there was a lack of resources and support for those grieving a military loss and decided to do something about it. Since 1994, TAPS, the only program of its kind, has assisted more than 80,000 surviving families, casualty officers, and caregivers. TAPS assists the families of our fallen heroes by providing comprehensive case management support, crisis intervention, and peer-based emotional support. TAPS also has a 24/7 National Military Survivor Helpline that provides support and information on how to access available resources. The breadth of their programming includes surviving seminars for adults, youth programs, retreats, expeditions and connections to counseling support and resources as well as help navigating benefits. TAPS’ holistic approach provides support for the entire family and has created a vast community of people that come together so that those suffering a loss are not alone as they walk the journey of grief and loss.
