The Post-9/11 GI Bill is absolutely still available for current and future service members. Eligibility requirements have not changed. Even with the global reduction of global troop deployment form it’s peak this has no baring on eligibility, as eligibility is not based on deployment to these theaters. Many veterans have gone to school using the Post-9/11 GI Bill without ever deploying. Eligibility requirements as set by Subchapter 2 of Chapter 33 covering who is, and is not a covered individual for the purpose of determining eligibility. Removing all the legalese, here is the most basic requirement:

To qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) veterans must have served at least 90 cumulative days of active duty service after September 10, 2001, and received an honorable discharge. Three years of cumulative service or a discharge due to a service connected injury will qualify that veteran for 100% of the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Less than 3 years of cumulative service the veteran will qualify for a lower tier of benefits (see below).

There are, of course, circumstances that can effects levels of eligibility such as if you’ve previously used another educational program, was commissioned through ROTC or a service academy, student loan repayment program etc. If these conditions apply, you must first complete you required service obligation which is typically 4 years.

However, if you enlisted or were commissioned with none of the aforementioned factors then you can generally determine your eligibility from the breakdown above.
