If the Giants or Pats get a parade, shouldn't Iraq vets?

Opinion The ticker-tape parade is a slice of Americana as old as the Statue of Liberty. It’s an honor reserved for a select few (sort of), from astronauts returning from space to military heroes to beloved politicians like Teddy Roosevelt. It’s also happened for baseball player Sammy Sosa, and even the President of Indonesia.

It’s Time for the President to Prove He’s Brady or Eli for Vets

Opinion If the NFC and AFC title games from this past weekend reminded us of anything, it’s that America loves clutch performances. The first three quarters are great for backdrop, but it’s performing when the pressure is at its highest that creates the best memories and the biggest stars. A quarterback that can perform under pressure makes all the difference in the world. For some of you, that means Tom Brady. For Giants fans like me, it’s been Eli Manning all season long. When the game is on the line, the great players step up.

History of ticker-tape parades

In the News Did you know that America has hosted a ticker-tape parade at the end of every war in the last century? We’ve even had parades for baseball player Sammy Sosa and the President of Indonesia. If our nation can honor them, they can honor the veterans of our nation’s longest wars. And when Afghanistan ends in 2013, we’ll do it again.
