Saturday, the six remaining Republican candidates will square off in the last debate before the “first in the south” primary in South Carolina, taking place at the at Peace Center in Greenville, SC.

CBS News will produce and air the debate which will be broadcast live at 9:00-10:30 pm EST, Saturday February 13. The moderators will be: CBS News’ “Face the Nation” anchor and principal moderator John Dickerson (@jdickerson), CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett (@MajorCBS) and Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel (@KimStrassel).

Only half of the remaining Republican candidates have prioritized veterans on their websites, which is noted on IAVA’s “IAVA Votes” website. John Kasich, Ted Cruz and Ben Carson do not have veterans sections.

In the course of this long campaign season, national security, military and veterans issues have been a larger topic of discussion in the Republican primary. In the last Republican debate, several of the candidates supported requiring women to join the selective service, but the next day, Senator Ted Cruz spoke out strongly against that notion.

Last week’s Republican debate also touched on the issue of privatizing the VA, in addition to a variety of military issues, and early in the campaign season, IAVA joined with other vet groups to speak out against Ben Carson’s plan to privatize the VA.

Donald Trump made headlines a few weeks ago by opting out of a debate in Iowa and instead appearing at a rally reported to be a veterans charity fundraiser. And, all of this news is likely to be of great interest in a South Carolina where exit polls from 2008 and 2012 indicate 25 percent of SC voters identified as active military or had served in the military, and newspapers headlines say “Veterans Are Many and Vocal.”
