Legislative Dispatch: NDAA Day 3

Happy Friday and welcome to round 3 of the Senate 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It’s been a busy day here in D.C. as the Senate is looking to finish up their version of the bill. IAVA has been pushing a suite of 5 amendments that will fulfill our Holiday Wish List for Veterans. Before Congress leaves for the holidays, we are asking them to:     - Protect veteran's jobs     - Help veterans transition to the workforce     - Defend the GI Bill     - Improve access to mental health care

Unless you’ve been glued to CSPAN-2 for the last day or so, you might not know that the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is moving forward at a breakneck pace. Yesterday, the Senate introduced over 200 amendments to the bill. All of them will be voted on in the next two days.

This was not a point about honesty, but of the awesome power of statistics to back up any argument -- true or false. Today the Senate is beginning work on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and IAVA is on the ground in DC fighting to protect employment, education and mental health care. All year, our DC team has been working with our partners in the veterans community and legislators on both sides of the aisle to ensure that your interests are protected. With the legislation working its way through debate on the Senate floor, we are fighting for amendments that will:


IAVA Members on the Front Lines of Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

Throughout a hugely successful Veterans Week, IAVA kept up our focus on service by coordinating IAVA members as volunteers for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. IAVA volunteers worked alongside Team Sita, a disaster response team comprised of veterans and first responders, to serve the Staten Island community.
