Cast your job search to new heights with SPIKE TV

Fleet Week is just around the corner! And IAVA is teaming up with SPIKE TV for a special show focused on employment challenges impacting New York-area veterans.The show will follow several unemployed veterans on their job hunt and track their progress leading up to a veterans jobs and resource service fair on May 23, sponsored by SPIKE TV and Services for the UnderServed.

Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s first and largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization representing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, released the following statement commending the President for signing an Executive Order to protect the Post-9/11 GI Bill and career-ready training for new veterans.


IAVA Demands Accountability As VA Underreports Mental Health Care Delays

On Monday, the Inspector General of the Department of Veterans Affairs released an alarming new report concluding that there were significant problems with VA mental health care access. The report, solicited at the request of Congress and the VA Secretary, found that wait times for veterans seeking mental health care were far longer than VA claims. It also raised serious questions about the reasons for the delayed care.

IAVA Applauds VA Plan to Expand Mental Health Staff

IAVA released the following statement applauding the Department of Veterans Affairs’ plan to add 1,600 mental health clinicians – nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers—as well as nearly 300 support staff to its existing workforce of 20,590 mental health staff:

Twenty-eight soldiers reportedly took their own lives in March, almost double the 15 suicides reported in February, according to the U.S. Army. This tragic news comes as veteran suicide received unprecedented national exposure this week.
