End Stigma. Prevent Suicide.

Suspected suicides in the Army reached a record high in 2010; even more troubling, suicide totals increased among Army reservists and more than doubled among Army national guardsmen. The heavy stigma associated with seeking care for mental health issues, depression or relationship problems, and the often-negative results of doing so, continue to be major obstacles that can lead to more serious problems or even suicide.

IAVA Applauds Critical Increases in President's 2012 Budget for New Veterans

On Monday, the President unveiled his proposed budget for fiscal year 2012. While the conversation in Washington and in the media has largely centered on its proposed cuts, IAVA is glad to see that veterans and their families will see increased funding for the benefits and services that they have earned.

Jobless Rate Skyrockets to 15.2% for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans

The unemployment rate for OEF/OIF veterans soared to 15.2 percent in January—the highest rate recorded since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking this data in 2006. This number follows the already staggering 11.5 percent OEF/OIF veteran unemployment rate in 2010, compared to 9.4 percent for the rest of the country.
