IAVA Expands National PSA Campaign to Engage Friends and Families of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans

Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the country's first and largest nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, launched a new series of national public service advertisements (PSAs), in partnership with the Ad Council.  The PSAs direct viewers to IAVA’s new website for the friends and families of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, www.SupportYourVet.org. IAVA is striving to reach a goal of 100,000 views of the new PSA by Mother’s Day, May 10th.

Today, Paul Rieckhoff, Executive Director and Founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation's first and largest nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, issued the following review of President Obama's commitment to veterans' issues in his first 100 days in office:

San Jose Caps Successful Pat's Run 2009

Team IAVA had another successful turnout this weekend for Pat’s Run in San Jose, California. More than 60 IAVA veteran members, friends, and families showed up at Leland High School Saturday morning to participate in the annual event. Several people drove from San Francisco, including members of the Student Veterans Group from Diablo Valley College and UC Berkeley. Special recognition goes to Brenda Torres and Tracey Cooper-Harris who drove all the way from Los Angeles!

IAVA Executive Director Lectures at National Strategy Forum

Today, IAVA Executive Director and Founder Paul Rieckhoff gave a lecture at the National Strategy Forum in Chicago entitled "Protecting Those Who Serve: A National Security Strategy for Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan."  Ahead of the troop drawdown in Iraq, Rieckhoff addressed how the U.S. government and local communities can play a role in ensuring the health, reintegration, and well-being of veterans and their families.

Earlier this week, I participated in a career panel discussion hosted by the New York Marine Executive Association (MEA) at the Soldiers and Sailors Club in NYC.  We discussed the current economic landscape, the struggles military veterans are facing transitioning from the military to the civilian work force, and how veterans can best highlight their “transferable skills.”
