"The Man in the Room"

New York Times' columnist Bob Herbert wrote a moving piece yesterday about the friendship between two men- one badly wounded in Iraq and the other standing by his bedside at Walter Reed. There is no use looking for words to explain the value of Josh's constant presence at Luis's bedside. The two men talk, play video games, watch movies, speculate about life and go through the good days and bad days together.

Brian Van Reet. an Iraq veteran. offers some concrete advice about our strategy in Iraq going forward. I was reminded today that it is very easy to be critical of decisions made by others. but much harder to offer solutions to the problems that face us.
