Washington D.C. – Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is celebrating yesterday’s House passage of the Veterans Economic Recovery Act that will establish a new one-year rapid retraining program for veterans who have lost their jobs to the coronavirus. It also includes a generous housing stipend equal to that provided by the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

“This will be one of the most impactful benefits for our generation of veterans and IAVA is proud to have worked with House Veterans Affairs Committee Ranking Member Phil Roe (R-TN), Economic Opportunity Subcommittee Chairman Mike Levin (D-CA), and supporters in passing it,” said IAVA CEO Jeremy Butler. “We strongly encourage the Senate to act swiftly on this critical legislation and get veterans back to work.”

The Senate version of the Veterans Economic Recovery Act has been introduced by Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Ranking Member Jon Tester (D-MT).

The House bill was passed within omnibus legislation (H.R. 7105) that will strengthen and expand services for homeless and unemployed veterans.
