Tell us a little about you outside of the military:
I medically retired as a New Jersey County Correctional Police Officer in February 2024 after a 12-year career. I am currently pursuing my Certificate Associate Project Manager (CAPM) to embark on a new career in project management. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about their lives and cultures. I have a passion for international cuisine, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
Why are you joining the IAVA Cavalry?
I’m joining the Cavalry because I understand the challenges veterans face during and after service. I also believe in the power of community and advocacy to create meaningful change for veterans. The IAVA Cavalry offers this unique opportunity to connect with fellow veterans, share our stories, and work together to address the issues that matter most to veterans. I hope to contribute and learn to the ongoing efforts to improve the lives of my fellow post 9-11 veterans to make sure we are heard and known to the policymakers and the public who needs to be well informed about veteran’s issues.
How did your military experience shape you to be the person you are today?
My military experience has been a cornerstone in shaping who I am today. Serving in the Army National Guard from 1995 to 2013 as a 91B Wheeled Vehicle Repairer as a H8 Recovery Vehicle Operator taught me invaluable lessons in discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Additionally, with two tours to Iraq the challenges I faced and the camaraderie I experienced have instilled in me a strong sense of duty and a commitment to helping others. These qualities have not only defined my military career but have also influenced my personal and professional life, guiding me to be a more empathetic, determined, and resourceful individual.
Which one of IAVA’s policy priorities do you believe is the most pressing? Why?
Democracy because it forms the foundation of a fair and just society. A strong democracy ensures that all citizens have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives, promoting equality, transparency, and accountability. By prioritizing democracy, we can work towards a more inclusive and representative government.
Which one of IAVA’s policy priorities do you have the strongest personal connection to? Why?
Suicide within the troops and veterans. Because I had lost one of my deployment brothers to suicide. The issue is critical because the stakes are incredibly high and has a profound impact on individuals, families, and the community.
