Tell us a little about you outside of the military:
-
- I enjoy helping others, especially Veterans, Service Members, and their families. I also enjoy traveling to different locations and experiencing many different things, including cultures and adventures. I want personal growth, fitness, and financial stability. I volunteer with many organizations and will always keep the military as part of my culture. I believe in having faith and growing in that spiritually. I enjoy learning and having new opportunities.
Why are you joining the IAVA Cavalry?
-
- I am joining the IAVA Cavalry because I believe in organizations that help advocate for Veterans and address the needs affecting military-connected communities. I have followed this organization, attended several online events, and read several articles. Still, I wanted to get more involved and bring my unique skillsets to continue to help improve the lives of Veterans. It is a chance to bring my connections and skillsets to a community that can help and support me through actions.
How did your military experience shape you to be the person you are today?
-
- Serving in the Marine Corps for 20 years of Active-Duty service shaped who I am today. The Marine Corps instilled the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment that continue today. My leadership experiences and managing teams prepared me to succeed in high-pressure environments. Most importantly, my military service taught me the importance of discipline, resilience, community, camaraderie, and flexibility in everyday situations in my life. I enjoy being there for others, and these lessons will continue to guide me professionally and personally.
Which one of IAVA’s policy priorities do you believe is the most pressing? Why?
-
- The most pressing IAVA policy priority is addressing the Veterans’ mental health crisis, particularly the high rates of suicide among veterans. Mental health is a critical issue affecting every Veterans’ well-being and life after service. Many Veterans face invisible wounds that need immediate attention. Ensuring access to mental health resources and reducing the stigma around seeking help is crucial to saving lives and supporting Veterans as they transition out of military service.
Which one of IAVA’s policy priorities do you have the strongest personal connection to? Why?
-
- After leaving the military, I witnessed Veterans’ challenges when transitioning to civilian life, especially in finding meaningful employment. I am dedicated to helping Veterans access training, education, and job opportunities for long-term success. That’s why I volunteer with organizations that offer career development resources and connect veterans with job opportunities. Empowering Veterans with education and employment support is crucial for their post-service success.
