Mark on joining the IAVA Cavalry:
This is Mark’s second tour of duty supporting the IAVA. He has a deep connection to the Marine Corps and Veteran community and wishes to work for the betterment of all veterans; especially those whom are in need of the services they earned.
How the military experience affected Mark’s personal growth:
I certainly would not be where I am today without my time in the Marines.
IAVA’s policy priorities that are the most pressing:
I am in full agreement with the IAVA Priorities. It is difficult to put one ahead of another. It’s past time for American women to stand with men and register with the selective services. We also have to keep our word and support the Afghans that supported us. I would have to say though that the internal threats to our democracy and amending AUMF are paramount to America’s continued leadership in the world.
IAVA’s policy priorities with the strongest personal connection for Mark:
In 2006 my local city had 3 uncontested council seats. It was very frustrating that I spent my 20’s supporting and defending democracy but I didn’t have a choice in my home town. So, in 2008 I ran for office. I learned a lot about local and state politics and the emotions that drive people’s decisions. I believe that the division amongst Americans has only gotten worse and the threats to our democracy need to be addressed.
