Kay Kensington

2025 IAVA Calvary Award Recipient

Kay Kensington is a first-generation Greek immigrant and U.S. Air Force veteran. Inspired by 9/11, she enlisted the next day and served five tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, often volunteering to protect fellow service members with families. A career-ending injury in Baghdad ended her military service, but not her commitment to veterans.

Since 2008, Kay has been active with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), where she is now a Leadership Fellow in the Cavalry, mentoring peers and advocating for veterans nationwide. She led the successful campaign for the Veterans Safe Travel Act, signed into law in January 2025, granting free TSA PreCheck to severely disabled veterans.

Her career also includes service at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she authored thousands of claims decisions with an Outstanding performance record. Now applying to law school, Kay plans to open a firm providing free legal services to veterans, continuing her lifelong mission of service.
