Bruce outside of the military:

I am a father of a beautiful 16 year old daughter. I am divorced. I am a retired Public School Teacher (27 years). I am the co founder of a non profit started during my deployment to Iraq called Peace Through Puppets. I wrote my dissertation for my PhD on Peace Through Puppets, and my PhD is in Public Policy and Social Change through Education.

Bruce on joining the IAVA Cavalry:

I am an Iraq War veteran, and I joined IAVA in 2009…or close to that.

How the military experience affected Bruce’s personal growth:

I learned my strengths and also what my weaknesses are. I learned to lead, and also learned to give all I have to fellow soldiers.

IAVA’s policy priorities that are the most pressing:

Right now this year’s policies I am most passionate about is the equal registration of women in the military. I also feel strongly about supporting our Afghan Allies.

IAVA’s policy priorities with the strongest personal connection for Bruce:

Nineteen veterans take their lives every day, approximately every two hours a veteran leaves. This has to stop.
