Two House Members Cosponsor IAVA-led Women Veterans Legislation
WASHINGTON, DC (October 30, 2018) – Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the leading voice of the Post-9/11 generation of veterans, is proud to announce that U.S. Reps. Dan Kildee (D-MI) and Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) have become cosponsors of the Deborah Sampson Act (S. 681/H.R. 2452), the centerpiece of IAVA’s #SheWhoBorneTheBattle campaign to recognize the service of women veterans.
Rep. Maloney was first elected to Congress in 2012 and serves on the Agriculture Committee as well as the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Rep. Kildee has served in Congress since 2013 and sits on the Financial Services and Budget Committees.
“Throughout the 115th Congress, IAVA has made it one of our top priorities to recognize the service of, and fill gaps in VA care for, women veterans,” said IAVA Founder and CEO Paul Rieckhoff. “We appreciate having the support of Reps. Maloney and Kildee for this historic piece of bipartisan legislation.”
The Deborah Sampson Act, sponsored by Reps. Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) and Martha McSally (R-AZ), now has 78 House cosponsors, plus 29 in the Senate. The Deborah Sampson Act and our #SheWhoBornTheBattle campaign is among IAVA’s Big Six priorities for 2018, including Suicide Prevention, Government Reform, #DefendTheGIBill, Burn Pits/Toxic Exposure Injury Support, and #CannabisForVets.
