Read: Weekly #SheWhoBorneTheBattle Sitrep – March 31
We’re into our second week of our #SheWhoBorneTheBattle campaign and in true IAVA fashion we’re kicking ass and taking names (of cosponsors). The Senate version of the Deborah Sampson Act introduced last week now has 16 cosponsors and we’re making great progress on the House version, which is set to be introduced next week. Here are some policy team highlights from this week:
- IAVA Political and Intergovernmental Affairs Director, Melissa Bryant, spoke at Global War on Terror Memorial Foundation’s press conference with Reps. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Seth Moulton (D-MA) and other VSOs announcing the bipartisan H.R. 873, the first step in establishing a Global War on Terror memorial on the National Mall.
- IAVA Chief of Staff, Allison Jaslow, represented us at a Congressional leaders roundtable with other Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs).
- Melissa Bryant spoke on a panel with Reps. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) and Seth Moulton (D-MA), and suicide prevention advocates Howard and Jean Somers for the inaugural screening of the documentary film, “VA: The Human Cost of War,” which explores the complicated history and bureaucratic challenges of the VA.
We are also proud to announce that Jewish War Veterans and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) have joined as partners to our campaign.
