Read: Weekly RRRP Impact Report – March 24, 2017
In 2012, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America saw a need to create a safety net for transitioning veterans to connect them to the extensive, but often fragmented, network of support systems and resources available to them. The Rapid Response Referral Team has connected over 7,800 veterans to more than 9,000 resources. Unfortunately, the needs of today’s veterans remain high.
RRRP client quote of the week: “This may be my last survey for [VTM]. She was unable to secure automotive assistance for me by the emissions deadline. Still she never gave up on trying, even when I had. I was ready to roll over and die when came to financial assistance for truck. She always had another suggestion or program to try. She made sure that I got a social worker with my local VA to benefit from any community outreach they may offer in addition to the support IAVA provides. I didn’t even know there were VA social workers. I think that my case with IAVA will be closed next week and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
Thanks to [VTM] I had the most memorable Christmas of life in 2016. I also feel like a newly motivated individual. She assures me that I may reach out to her and IAVA should the need ever arise in the future. I feel supported“
Trends:
Clients seeking employment assistance, emergency financial assistance and clients seeking mental health/substance abuse help made up the bulk of new cases. This is followed by classic transition needs, clients seeking help navigating the VA and GI-Bill/Voc Rehab troubleshooting. We’ve also received cases from families seeking services for incarcerated or soon to be incarecerted veterans. Clients continue to reach out for assistance appealing their VA service-connected disability ratings, as well as navigating the compensation recoupment issues.
