Read: RRRP Weekly Report May 5, 2017
In 2012, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America saw a need to create a safety net for transitioning veterans to connect them to the extensive, but often fragmented, network of support systems and resources available to them. The Rapid Response Referral Team has connected over 7,900 veterans to more than 9,200 resources. Unfortunately, the needs of today’s veterans remain high.
RRRP client quote of the week:
“Hi [VTM] and thank you for the great news. I appreciate everything you have done for me. It’s been a long road for me these last two years. It’s been almost exactly 2 years ago that I fractured my spinal cord and was left paralyzed. After a long surgery and god’s blessing I was able to walk again. I lost my ability to work, lost my apartment, and my girlfriend left me while I was still in the hospital. I graduated in December with my 2nd degree and I am now ready to start my life over. It is because of organizations like yours that made this possible for me. I will be eternally grateful to you guys. Also, can you please tell me if there is a payment plan for me to pay back every penny. Once again thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Trends:
Clients seeking housing and emergency financial assistance continue to make the bulk of new cases. This is followed by veterans seeking access to mental health services and employment assistance. Veterans continue to reach out seeking help accessing their education benefits, as well as VA disability appeals assistance.
