Read: RRRP Weekly Report May 18
RRRP client quote of the week:
“I’m just going to continue to keep a positive attitude, be patient and deal with matters one at a time from most to the least of importance of urgency. Thank you for your time and efforts. You have really helped me out and have been the best case worker I have worked with and I am so grateful to have been referred to you.”
Trends:
RRRP continues to receive inquiries related to unemployment/underemployment, and requests for legal assistance relating to VA benefits issues and discharge upgrades. RRRP continues to assist veterans seeking assistance utilizing their Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits and VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) services. Emergency financial assistance needs continue to dominate requests, as many clients are struggling with basic need costs like rent, mortgage, utilities, groceries, vehicle repairs, gas, and home repairs. Many clients seeking financial assistance are also inquiring about employment support and report that their financial and employment struggles are directly related to underlying service-connected general health and mental health issues. We continue to be contacted by veterans seeking assistance submitting their initial VA disability claims or upgrades, as well as those seeking access to VA healthcare and mental health services.

Referral Partner Highlight: VFW Unmet Needs Program
VFW’s Unmet Needs Program understand the challenges veterans, service members and military families sometimes face and works to intervene to ease the burden of financial hardship. This program assists with unexpected financial difficulties that occur as a result of deployment or other military-related activity or injury and provides financial assistance up to $1,500. VFW’s Unmet Needs Program helps those who are currently on active duty, whose financial hardship is a result of a current deployment, military pay error, or from being discharged for medical reasons, veterans who were discharged on or after September 11, 2001, whose financial hardship is a direct result of military service connected injuries and/or illnesses and veterans discharged prior to September 11, 2001, who are on a fixed income that includes VA compensation, and are facing an unexpected financial hardship. Veterans, service members and their families can apply for assistance for mortgage, rent, house repairs and insurance, vehicle payments, insurance and repairs, utilities, food, clothing, diapers, formula, school and childcare expenses and medical bills, prescriptions and eyeglasses. RRRP has been collaborating with VFW’s Unmet Needs Program since 2012 and has referred nearly 130 veterans and families to access this life-changing assistance.
