RRRP client quote of the week:

“It has been a long time since I have been able to trust people and there are only a few people in this world I can trust and one of them is [VTM]. She has been with me for a while now helping me in every way possible and she hasn’t let me down, she has lifted me up when others have let me down.”

Trends:
RRRP processed 6 new cases this week and provided 9 new referrals for clients. Legal, financial assistance, and suicide and mental health needs were the top areas clients sought support and assistance with. RRRP also had inquiries for assistance with VA disability claims, housing, and education benefits. Customer service and program quality partner ratings went up last week and clients continue to report a reduction in stress after working with RRRP’s Veteran Transition Managers.

Referral Partner Highlight: Veteran Advocacy Project
The Urban Justice Center’s Veteran Advocacy Project (VAP) provides low-income veterans and their families with free civil legal services. VAP focuses their support on veterans experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and substance use related challenges. Like RRRP, VAP understands and recognizes potential challenges and barriers to transitioning back to civilian life and provides critical legal support when veterans need it most. Struggling with PTSD, TBI and substance use while facing legal challenges such as eviction or lack of benefits can drastically increase risk factors furthering the possibility of homelessness, unemployment and depression and other mental health issues. VAP aims to intervene before a veteran’s life begins to unravel, ensuring access to housing, health care, benefits and financial stability. VAP is staffed with lawyers as well as advocates who provide linkages to social services and other necessary supports for clients. This comprehensive model is effective in providing holistic care for veterans and their families to support long-term sustainability. RRRP has connected over 90 veterans to this life-changing program.
