Read: Networking to Build Community
In a series of Q&A’s, IAVA is sharing what #VetsRising means, and is, to our members. Meet Josh Wheeldon, a U.S. Army veteran who resides in Auburn, WA.
What brought you to IAVA?
Meeting other veterans and supporters as well as the cool stickers and koozies!
You are a powerhouse networker in Washington State! What’s your secret? What advice would you give to other IAVA members looking to build local community?
There are numerous things that you can do to become a “powerhouse networker”. You have to know what you like. These are hobbies, sports, motorcycles or whatever your “thing” might be. Also, attend events! Numerous veteran service organizations hold events monthly such as VetTogethers, socials and service projects. Just become involved and be motivated to seek out other like-minded veterans. Always remember that everyone you meet can change your life! Lastly, never pass up the opportunity to thank a veteran for their service.
What’s the best thing you’ve heard from someone since you’ve been involved with IAVA?
Once at a VetTogether I heard “This is exactly what I have been looking for since I got out.”
