Washington, D.C. — Today Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the non-partisan, leading voice for the Post-9/11 generation of veterans, released the following statement upon the Senate’s confirmation of Doug Collins to be the next Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA):

“It’s nice to have a fellow veteran leading the VA again, and a veteran who’s also served during our most recent wars,” said IAVA CEO and Iraq War veteran, Allison Jaslow. “What remains to be seen, however, is if we can also count on Secretary Doug Collins to also ensure that our generation of veterans’ unique needs are effectively prioritized as he leads VA. We nevertheless remain hopeful that he’ll do right by our nation’s veterans as he steps in to lead the VA at such a consequential time for the agency. And that he’s going into the job eyes wide open about the challenges on the road ahead as VA still struggles to adapt to a rapidly changing world and a rapidly changing veteran population.”

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is the leading voice of the Post-9/11 generation of American veterans. We represent over 425,000 members, and our best-in-class, non-partisan advocacy on behalf of the post-9/11 generation of veterans has chalked up big wins for our community – and America – for 20 years and counting.
