Washington, DC – The following is a statement from the CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Allison Jaslow, on the passing of World War II veteran, former IAVA Board Member, and iconic American figure, Norman Lear.

“I’m incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Norman Lear.

Lear is one of the finest Americans I’ve ever met, who’s given more of himself to our country than most.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, was a former IAVA Board Member, and through the power of art, spearheaded generational change for the better in our country. He also exemplified leadership by example, and was an inspiration to so many – myself included.

Norman, you will be sorely missed by the IAVA community, sir. But we know that you’ll be rooting for us from up above. You’ve always had our backs. And we know that’ll never change.”

IAVA is the voice for the post-9/11 veteran generation. With over 425,000 veterans and allies nationwide, IAVA is the leader in non-partisan veteran advocacy and public awareness. We drive historic impacts for veterans and IAVA’s programs are second to none.
