IAVA Congratulates Senator Moran as new SVAC Chair, Urges Attention to Women Vets and Vets Suicide Bills
Washington, D.C. (January 13, 2020) – Today, IAVA congratulates Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) on his confirmation as the 12th Chair of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee (SVAC). Senator Moran has served on the SVAC since 2011.
“We are looking forward to partnering with Senator Moran in his new leadership role and with Ranking Member Senator Tester to pass the Commander John Scott Hannon Veteran Mental Healthcare Improvement Act,” said IAVA CEO Jeremy Butler. “We also hope Senator Moran will prioritize bringing the Deborah Sampson Act before the committee. IAVA is ready to help the committee work to achieve health care parity for women veterans through this critical legislation.”
The Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Healthcare Improvement Act, introduced by Senators Moran and Tester, has been a top priority for IAVA to address the veteran suicide crisis. The IAVA-led Deborah Sampson Act has been the central focus of our “She Who Borne The Battle” campaign in support of women veterans since it was launched in 2017. The bill passed the House last year and now must be passed by the Senate to become law.
