Washington, DC – Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) applauds today’s U.S. Supreme Court Torres v. Texas Department of Public Safety decision which upheld the constitutionality of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA), which protects service members and veterans from employment discrimination based on their military service or on disabilities related to their service.
“IAVA proudly joined with other VSOs to an amicus brief filed by the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) that reaffirmed the reemployment and anti-discrimination rights of servicemembers and veterans,” said Jeremy Butler, CEO of IAVA. “The decision today reaffirms important protections for those who have fought for us so that they will not be discriminated against due to their service. This is an important win for LeRoy Torres as well as servicemembers and veterans alike.”
