House Budget Reconciliation Bill is an Assault on Veterans Education
Reinstating the 90/10 Loophole is Detrimental to the Future of the GI Bill and Puts Congress on the Side of For-Profit Universities, NOT Veterans
Washington, DC – Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) released the following statement in reaction to the language that was released from the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor as a part of the broader budget reconciliation bill that’s working its way through the House.
“Veterans advocates fought for years to close the 90/10 loophole that was exploited by for-profit universities to take advantage of G.I.Bill student veterans and the U.S. taxpayer,” said IAVA CEO and Iraq War veteran Allison Jaslow. “The House of Representatives should be ashamed that they’re even entertaining the idea of reinstating this costly and wrongheaded policy that would threaten the future of veterans’ education. This harmful language that is poised to be a part of the larger budget reconciliation package moving through the House of Representatives should be removed immediately unless Members of Congress want to feel the wrath of the veterans community as we mobilize to defeat this bill.”
IAVA proudly led the fight to pass the Post-9/11 GI Bill in 2008, has fought over and over again since to #DefendTheGIBill, and will do so again if need be.
