Google Supports Post-9/11 Veterans
IAVA beneficiary of technology giant giving campaign
New York, NY (December 19, 2014) – Joining in the holiday spirit of giving, this Friday and Saturday (Dec. 19-20), users who visit Google’s homepage will be invited to donate, volunteer and join Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). Visitors can watch the video of IAVA and other nonprofits that Google is supporting on g.co/happyholidays between Dec. 19, 2014, and Jan. 4, 2015.
“IAVA is proud to be part of Google’s giving campaign. As the leading technology giant, Google’s support of America’s leading post-9/11 veteran organization continues to be vital,” said IAVA CEO and Founder Paul Rieckhoff. “America’s newest generation of veterans’ embrace of technology allows IAVA to connect members online, build communities on the ground, and mobilize supporters to fight for the care vets have earned. The support of partners like Google is essential in keeping nonprofits like IAVA working to honor the men and women who served our country and ensure their sacrifices are not forgotten.”
Over the past four years, IAVA and Google have collaborated on programs to assist veterans as they transition to civilian careers. In 2014, nearly 500 IAVA veterans attended 16 Google resume workshops, where Google experts provided one-on-one advice for translating military job skills to the civilian world. To date, Google has served more than 1,100 veterans with this program and trained more than 1,500 employees to mentor them.
