Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) was founded and is run by post-9/11 veterans. Our mission is to connect, unite and empower this new generation of veterans. IAVA provides valuable resources and empowers veterans to connect with one another, fostering a strong and lasting community. Through education, advocacy and community building, we strive to create a country which honors and supports veterans of all generations.


IAVA is committed to efficient and sound financial management. Our goal is to ensure our programs are making the largest impact for as many veterans as possible. Since our founding 13 years ago, IAVA has connected more than 1.27 million veterans with resources and community, while being fiscally responsible to the thousands of individuals, foundations and corporate partners who support our mission.

In our latest 990 annual report to the IRS, IAVA raised or earned just over $9.5 million. That public report shows that 81% of all spending went directly to programs that served our veterans. And fundraising made up only 12% of our overall spending—lower than most other veteran service organizations nationwide. We believe it is important to note that the 7% of our funding spent on “operations” is not waste. It goes to expenses like technology for our social workers, development and maintenance to online programs like, and to pay our phone bill so more than 7,500 veterans could call IAVA when they were in crisis.

IAVA has top ratings from Charity Watch and GuideStar, two of the leading not-for-profit reporting agencies.
