Former Army Sgt. Kyle J. White Praised by New Vets For Receiving Medal of Honor

New York, NY (May 13, 2014) – Today President Barack Obama will award the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, to former Army Sgt. Kyle J. White for conspicuous gallantry. Sgt. White received the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions during a dismounted movement in mountainous terrain in Aranas, Afghanistan on November 9, 2007. White was serving as a Platoon Radio Telephone Operator assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) joins a grateful nation in honoring Sgt. White, an IAVA member, for receiving the Medal of Honor.

“IAVA congratulates Sgt. White on this incredible, richly-deserved honor. We are proud to call him one of our own,” said IAVA Founder and CEO Paul Rieckhoff. “The remarkable courage and bravery of Sgt. White boldly exemplifies a common thread running throughout this New Greatest Generation of men and women who have so selflessly served our country since 9/11. As we continue to draw down our troop presence in Afghanistan, it is more and more critical that we pause at moments like this to honor the sacrifice and dedication of Americans like Sgt. White – and to ensure that we care for all of our veterans as they transition home.”
