Marine Veteran and Attorney Lindsay Rodman Joins IAVA Leadership Team

New Communications Director Brings Extensive Experience From The Pentagon, White House, Council on Foreign Relations

NEW YORK (February 11, 2019) – Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization representing post-9/11 veterans and their families, this week announced the addition of a new member to its strong and dynamic executive leadership team: Lindsay L. Rodman, Director of Communications and Legal Strategy. In this role, Rodman is responsible for all strategic communications and IAVA’s strategy for achieving its policy goals through legal means, including supporting related litigation and legislation.

“Lindsay is a brilliant, strong and established leader for veterans and military personnel everywhere. Her tremendous wealth of leadership experience will power IAVA’s growing momentum to new heights in 2019 and beyond,” IAVA Founder Paul Rieckhoff shared. “We are all excited to have her join our team and to watch her take all IAVA’s extensive communication and advocacy efforts to the next level. She embodies the core values and potential of our mission that defines the new Greatest Generation.”

Rodman spent eight years on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps as a judge advocate, including tours of duty in Okinawa, at Headquarters Marine Corps and in the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2010-2011 with 1st Marine Division (FWD). During her last year on active duty, she was selected as a White House Fellow, and served on the National Security Council Staff. In late 2015, Rodman transitioned off of active duty and served as a civilian political appointee in the Pentagon.

Rodman joins IAVA after relocating to New York City from Canada, where she was the inaugural International Affairs Fellow in Canada at the New York-based think tank, the Council on Foreign Relations. Since leaving government, where she worked at the highest levels of the Pentagon and White House, Rodman has had a distinguished think tank career. Her work and research have been primarily focused on military personnel policy, including veterans transition issues. She is a recognized expert on a wide array of topics ranging from sexual assault in the military to Arctic security.

“As a Marine myself, I have always appreciated the tireless advocacy and support of IAVA for our generation of veterans. I was able to see the direct impact of IAVA’s work from my vantage point in the Pentagon and the White House, and I am thrilled that I now have the honor of joining the team,” said Rodman. “I very much look forward to working with this incredible group of people.”

Rodman is a graduate of Harvard Law School, the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and Duke University. She is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at New York University School of Law’s Reiss Center on Law and Security. She remains active in the reserves and currently holds the rank of major.

Rodman joins the deeply committed staff at IAVA’s staff, which includes a mix of veterans and civilians with who represent diverse areas of expertise and backgrounds.  IAVA has a proud history of raising the voice of the post-9/11 veterans community, with unparalleled reach in the communications space.
