Read: RRRP Celebrates One Year in California

Just one year ago, IAVA’s Rapid Response Referral Program (RRRP) expanded its services to California, dedicating two Veteran Transition Managers to serve over 250,000 post-9/11 veterans and family members on the ground on the West Coast, and developing solid partnerships with service providers throughout the state.

Just one year later, RRRP has provided more than 900 referrals to nearly 600 veterans and family members, linking them to services ranging from emergency housing to mental health care, and partnering with great California programs like PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), Operation Mend and Valiant VA Claim Services.

One recent client shared how the service has impacted their life: “Thank you again for all your support. Since we last talked I got into a PTSD program and therapy has been going well. We are dealing with a lot of issues. It’s hard to think where I would be without all your help. Thank you again.”

A total of 157 of those referrals focused on veteran employment. In fact, RRRP has done a tremendous amount of work to link veterans to job resources, which will be highlighted today as IAVA partners with Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti for his 10,000 Strong Veterans Career Summit at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall. The summit will give veterans from around Southern California the opportunity to network with career and business expert, develop proposals for entrepreneurial projects and compete for government contracts. RRRP staff will be on the ground at the summit, presenting in a workshop called “How Can I Leverage Technology and Advance my Career?” and providing resources on elements of the transition process.

IAVA and RRRP will follow the summit with a VetTogether, co-hosted with Mayor Garcetti’s office, which will give veterans the opportunity to continue networking, focus on community building, and ask any questions related to transitioning to the RRRP team. While in California RRRP plans to continue to meet with our important referral partners, strengthen our RRRP ambassador program by using members and interested stakeholders to talk about our work in the community and meet with vets at more VetTogethers.
