Read: Daily Defend the GI Bill Update for June 6

Yesterday marked the day Allied soldiers begin amphibious landings on Normandy Beach. Known as D Day, the day marked the beginning of the end for the Nazi regime. In recognition of the American service members that were literally fighting to save the world, Congress established the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, more commonly known as the GI Bill. But the passage of the original GI Bill was not easy. Many Members of Congress saw the new bill as too generous (sound familiar?) and the GI Bill barely made it through Congress.

Yesterday was a somber reminder of why we are fighting to #DefendTheGIBill. A few campaign highlights from yesterday:

Advocacy Team:

  • Met with the offices of Sen. John Thune (R-SD) and Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY).
  • Set-up meetings with two congressional offices.

Member Advocacy:

  • Defend the GI Bill campaign grassroots IAVA member message total stands at 30,713.
