VOWS Opens Doors for New Veterans in Employment Fight
Posted by Joseph Bitet on June 29 2011

Although the USS Intrepid was decommissioned in 1974, last Thursday the Veterans on Wall Street job fair and conference brought it back to life. IAVA Member Veterans from across the tristate area were among the ranks of service members in attendance. Through a combination of educational initiatives, mentoring, outreach to the military, employee affinity groups, and an annual conference, VOWS seeks to promote career development, support, and retention of veterans throughout the global financial services industry.

College Success: Leveraging Your Vet-Cred
Posted by Don Gomez on June 27 2011

As Veterans, we hold a powerful tool to employ on our quest for a first-rate education: our stories. Our experience in the Armed Forces makes us different from the average student. In the words of a scholarship advisor and friend, we are “exotic.” There’s no getting around this fact. In a country where less than one-percent of the population serves, we represent a tiny portion of society, and people are curious about us. This curiosity can be used to our benefit to help us get the best education possible.

Project 11: Meet the IAVA Intern Class of 2011!
Posted by Caitlin Kenney on June 22 2011

For the summer of 2011, IAVA has taken on 11 interns to help the organization’s mission of reaching out to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and advocating on their behalf. We come from across the country with various military and educational backgrounds and bring with us a desire to give back to this generation of veterans. Even though we are spread out between New York City and Washington, D.C. we are a close-knit group that is working together to make the most of our time at IAVA. Follow our latest updates from IAVA HQ on the blog all summer long!
