During Veterans Week 2008, IAVA Member Veterans participated in over 200 parades and events nationwide, including the Veterans Day Parade in New York City, IAVA's 2nd Annual Heroes Gala and the successful launch of IAVA's national Veteran Support Campaign with the Ad Council.

On November 11th, IAVA Member Veterans and their families gathered to march in more than a dozen Veterans Day parades across the country, including New York City's flagship Veterans Day Parade up Fifth Avenue.
IAVA’s Second Annual Heroes Gala was held on November 12, 2008 at historic Gotham Hall in New York City.
Actor Cameron Diaz presided as Host Committee Chair, Henry Rollins as Master of Ceremonies for the evening, and General Peter W. Chiarelli and NBC Heroes Actor Milo Ventimiglia presented awards to IAVA's Veteran and Civilian Honorees.
IAVA was proud to bestow Iraq War Veterans and U.S. Paralympic athletes Scott Winkler and Carlos Leon with the 2008 Veterans Leadership Award for their courage, strength, and dedication. For his commitment to improving the lives of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families, IAVA also honored Arnold Fisher, Senior Partner at Fisher Brothers and Honorary Chairman of the Fallen Heroes Fund, with the 2008 IAVA Civilian Service Award.

On Veterans Day 2008, IAVA and the Ad Council partnered to launch an ambitious national outreach campaign targeting returning veterans and their families. The first series of ads encouraged veterans to visit CommunityOfVeterans.org, the first social networking site exclusively for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Learn more about the campaign. |
