Schwab Steps Up for Vets of Iraq and Afghanistan
July 27 2011

In support of IAVA’s Combat to Career initiative, Schwab has stepped up for new veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan to provide them with a unique educational experience to equip veterans with the tools and knowledge they need in a competitive job market.
At Schwab’s Military Veterans Career Skills Forum in Orlando, Florida, IAVA member veterans had the opportunity to attend four skill-building workshops focused on Jobs at Schwab, Corporate Culture, Interviewing Skills, and Financial Fitness. IAVA member veterans also had the opportunity to network and present their resumes to Schwab hiring managers.
This opportunity for IAVA members is part of IAVA's ongoing efforts to address and reverse the consistently high unemployment rate for OIF/OEF/OND veterans. No veteran should come home from Iraq and Afghanistan to an unemployment check. But nearly 300,000 have. The unemployment rate for new veterans has doubled in the last five years and continues to skyrocket. IAVA is fighting to change this through our innovative year-long campaign Combat to Career: The Fight to End Veteran Unemployment to help the 2.2 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan successfully transition from service to the civilian workforce. To find out more about the campaign, head over to Combat to Career today.
