Prior to taping, Colbert fielded questions from IAVA Member Veterans on set about his own USO tour experience last summer where he broadcasted from Saddam Hussein's palace in Baghdad. During the show, Colbert also sat down with U.S. Senator Jim Webb (D-VA), a Vietnam veteran and former Secretary of the Navy, for a discussion about the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Later, musician John Legend also treated the audience to a special performance of his song "Coming Home" about troops leaving for war. Colbert also offered IAVA Member Veterans a "slice of the American dream" - Miller High Life, hot dogs, and his specially branded Ben & Jerry's ice cream! |
Membership Event: IAVA at Perdition
Following the taping at the Colbert Report, IAVA member veterans laughed and shared their favorite moments from the show over food and drinks at the neighborhood bar Perdition. Joined by IAVA Deputy Executive Director Todd Bowers and staff from both IAVA and the Colbert Report, members were able to reconnect with fellow veterans and to even catch the show as it aired on TV screens around the bar.
