IAVA's Storm the Hill Membership event took place Sunday evening in DC, featuring panelists Colonel David Sutherland and Mrs. Holly Petraeus, Assistant Director for Servicemember Affairs for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and IAVA Founder and Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff. With local area Member Veterans, the conversation focused on the challenges facing veterans when they return home, what can be done to bridge the civilian-military divide, and how veterans can protect themselves by utilizing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's services.
"Holly has been a long time advocate for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families, and we were honored to host her at our Storm the Hill membership panel this week,” said Paul Rieckhoff , Founder and Executive Director, IAVA, of Holly Petraeus. “As a military spouse, she knows exactly where we're coming from. She is one of the leading voices in our community to ensure vets have the resources they need to successfully transition home. Our members across the country appreciate her unique insight and advocacy on the issue of for-profit schools. The New GI Bill, which IAVA fought hard to pass in 2008, is one of the best resources our vets have to fight joblessness. It's good to know that Holly has our back, so vets can take full advantage of the education benefits that they have earned and continue their service at home."
At the conclusion of the event, David Petraeus, Director, Central Intelligence Agency, and former Army General who led coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan stopped by and greeted IAVA members, supporters, and Stormers. The panel event is the first time IAVA has held its annual membership event to kick off Storm the Hill week and brought together this year’s Ground Stormers and local IAVA members and supporters.
Storm the Hill can only be successful if we have your help. There are 12,000 lobbyists in Washington, and they have Washington's ear - and back pocket - 365 days a year. Without you, our vets are outnumbered. Click here to help fund the fight. Whether it's a meal, a cab ride, or sponsoring a vet for the entire trip, every dollar counts! And thanks to a generous IAVA donor, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar. Click here to donate today.
