Clean-up and rescue efforts resume in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. A number of states were hit incredibly hard, and at IAVA we’re doing our best to keep you updated with best-in-class resources and updates. If you have any questions, concerns or recommended resources, please email us at membership@iava.org [4] or tweet at us @IAVA [5].
VET RESOURCES
IAVA has case managers standing by to assist veterans [6] and their families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The VA has information [7] on how to stay updated on VA services in your area. You can also check your VA facility status here [8] and you follow VA for updates on Twitter here [9].
If you're looking to connect with other vets who have been affected by the storms, or just looking for a place to meet with vets who know where you're coming from, head to the Sandy Thread [10] in Community of Veterans [11] (COV), IAVA's social network exclusively for vets of Iraq and Afghanistan.
If you have urgent needs we have case managers standing by to assist. Go here [6] to connect with our case management team.
IAVA has also partnered [12] with the Veterans Crisis Line to provide IAVA's membership with direct and immediate access to mental health professionals. Add the Veterans Crisis Line number to your phone, it only takes a second: 1-800-273-8255 press 1 for veterans or text "838255" for support.
Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors. They have set up a disaster relief fund as well as process disaster relief requests for post-9/11 vets and service members. They have already funded food, lodging, home repairs, gas, clothing and other basic needs and have full time dedicated case workers. Email info@operationhomefront.net [13] for more information.
NYC VA UPDATES
Updates [14] on the still-closed Manhattan VA hospital (as of 11/6/12).

FEMA
For the latest on the Federal government’s response to Sandy, head to FEMA’s blog [15] or follow their updates on Twitter [16].
RED CROSS
If you need emergency shelter, you can download the Red Cross Hurricane app [17], visit the Red Cross web site [18], or check your local media outlets. You should also register on the Red Cross Safe and Well website [19], a secure and easy-to-use online tool that helps families connect during emergencies.
If you’re not in an affected area, please consider donating blood. To schedule a blood donation or for more information about giving blood or platelets, visit redcrossblood.org [20] or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
