STORYCORPS’ MILITARY VOICES INITIATIVE TEAMS UP WITH IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN VETERANS OF AMERICA
 
Host Special Recording Day to Capture Stories of Veterans, Service Members, and their Families In New York City on August 21st

NEW YORK - StoryCorps, a national nonprofit oral history organization, will team up with the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to record stories of IAVA members nationwide, as part of StoryCorps’ Military Voices Initiative. The Military Voices Initiative is a collaborative project to record, share, and preserve the unique stories of new veterans, service members, and their families. IAVA is the nation’s first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving the lives of our newest veterans and their families.

The recordings will take place at StoryCorps’ NYC StoryBooth, a soundproof, professional recording facility located at Foley Square in downtown Manhattan. We invite members of the press to interview IAVA participants, speak to StoryCorps staff, and tour the recording facility. Media must RSVP in advance to Michelle McCarthy, michelle@iava.org.  

StoryCorps' Military Voices Initiative is generously funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and The Boeing Company.

WHO: StoryCorps and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA)

WHAT: A day of recording with IAVA members and staff, recent veterans, service members, and military families; Tour of StoryBooth

WHERE: Foley Square (also known as Thomas Paine Park) at the intersection of Worth and Centre Streets, across from the U.S. Courthouse

WHEN: Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

General Press Guidelines:

  • Cameras will be allowed in the MobileBooth before interviews begin. Photographs and video can be shot from outside the window during interviews.
  • Press can listen to interviews with participant permission, on wireless headphones (when available) from outside the booth.
  • Press can interview participants, with their permission, before and after their StoryCorps interviews.
