Hundreds of New Veterans, High Profile Supporters Come Together for Veteran’s Day Care Package Event and Celebration at New York’s Historic Plaza Hotel

WHAT: Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s first and largest non-partisan, nonprofit organization representing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, will host its Annual Veterans Day Celebration to honor the service of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, following the Veterans Day Parade in New York City.  The theme of this year’s celebration is “We’ve Got Your Back,” the new tagline of IAVA’s Veteran Support Campaign. THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PRESS.

IAVA will be joined by veterans from across the country and will have a strong presence in New York City’s Veterans Day Parade, in addition to dozens of IAVA sponsored events nationwide.  For a complete list, visit www.IAVA.org/vetsday2009.

WHO: Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), hundreds of IAVA Member Veterans from across the country, their families and high profile supporters such as past New York Jets stars.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 11, 2:00-5:00 PM E.S.T

WHERE: The Plaza Hotel, 1 E 58th St, New York, NY 10019. For directions, click here.

SUMMARY: This year’s Veterans Day Celebration offers veterans from across the country the opportunity to come together and celebrate while also giving back to their community. The celebration will begin with a care package event where IAVA Veteran Members and supporters will be able to send their support to servicemembers overseas. This will be followed by an event honoring veterans for their service and contribution to our country. The Plaza Hotel is the premiere sponsor of the event, and donated an entire floor for the day’s events.

STAY ENGAGED: Throughout the day, an interactive text message campaign will give supporters the opportunity to thank troops serving overseas. To say thanks to our troops overseas, text “troops” to 69866.  Messages of support will be displayed at iava.org/vetsweek.

For live updates from veterans on the ground, follow www.Twitter.com/IAVA.

To cover the event, or to arrange an interview with IAVA Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff or an IAVA Member Veteran, please contact Michael Houston at 212-982-9699 or michael@iava.org.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is the country's first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and has more than 150,000 veteran members and civilian supporters nationwide.
